The Fiat Nuova 500 — designated internally as the Tipo 110 — entered Italian production on July 4, 1957, a date the Bureau considers suspiciously patriotic for a vehicle manufactured in Turin. Designed by Dante Giacosa, the car was conceived as post-war Italy's answer to affordable personal mobility, a function it performed with remarkable competence for approximately eighteen years. Norev has issued several 1:43 Fiat 500 editions in resin and diecast, generally reliable in proportion though occasionally liberal with interior detail. Altaya produced the model as part of various partwork series across European markets, making it widely accessible and correspondingly common in estate sales. A sound example of the 1:43 Fiat 500 in collector grade presents with intact chrome trim — particularly the bumperettes, which are the first components to suffer at the hands of inattentive handling.
